Amy, you are a real fan of F1.

At the top F1 levels (NOT the always also-rans...), how much do you think is the car, and how much the driver?

My ignorant guess is 50/50!

50/50.

However - many years back when he owned Brabham, Bernie let Nelson Piquet have a go in a back-marker team's car - and Nelson was *quick* in it... The best drivers will rise to the top...

70+ years ago, in maybe the "greatest jazz concert of all time," Charlie "Bird" Parker played a CHEAP plastic saxophone that was lent to him! So, talent and practice tells.

It's Monaco this weekend - very very very narrow - like riding a bicycle around your kitchen - so who ever is on the front row will win.

Are the cars bigger now than they used to be? Monaco sounds less like a race than an exercise in high-speed rush hour driving! If you can't pass, what is the point? I might not be a racing fan, but even I get that!

The cars are wider and heavier than they have ever been. In real terms they are *not* suited for Monaco but because the event is tradition gold - like the Indy 500 at the Brickyard - we return each year. The ecpensive boats, the glam people - most of whom know nothing about the sport - turn up in their droves. Back in the old days - Graham Hill, Moss, Clark etc - when the cars were tiny - you could have a showcase. Now it's a social media click-bait event.

I will still be watching though!

I was reading a story where the writer was tossing off terms like "The Swimming Pool" for Monaco, and I got the feeling that it was Tradition. And I also got the feeling that Max's team's cars do NOT like the track!

You saw where Red Bull's car wizard is making Ferrari noises? That ought to make Mr. Hamilton happy.

The races were more exciting? The drivers? The tracks?

Speaking of tracks, I was reading that the Kyalami circuit in South Africa almost got a race in 2022, and that a LOT of fans want a race somewhere in Africa!

Yes - better racing. And less glitz.

I am sure the circus will return to Africa at some point.

Again, I am not knowledgeable about racing, but the cars cost so much now! And they seem rather breakable too. Maybe bigger/wider tracks to race on?
